Carry's Tutorial

from Oldshy on 11/09/2013 03:40 AM

Alright, then. Now I don't know if you remember any of this or not, but I can at least attempt to jog your memory. Do you know where we are? This is Ithnium. It's a huge, wealthy city, directly in the middle of a large continient that - in the human tongue - is known as Rokane. This is the capital city of Rokane, and also home to King Tristanthimum III, and the royal family. If you are a curiors about the world of rokane...

SEE A MAP OF ROKANE HERE.

Rokane is inhabited by a series of races, including humans, elves, dwarves, nymphs, goblins, orcs, trolls, ogres, and more. Thanks to one of Rokane's earliest explorers, the famous Harold Scott, who kept a journal of every species he ever encountered throughout his journeys.

SEE SCOTT'S JOURNAL HERE.

Alright, now I'm not sure entirely what you do and don't remember how to do, so let's just go over some basics.

The HOMEPAGE probably looks something like thisL
homepage

On the homepage, you can find me, welcoming new rangers as they enter through the gates of Ithnium, and you can find recent additions to the "Rokane" section of the site. But see up at the top, all of thos tabs? Those are your keys to th kigdom, quite literally.

Take a look at the first tab after home, the "Rokane" tab. Click that. You should now find yourself in a page that resembles a forum. Now, lots of stuff happens under this tab, which is why it is called what it is. First of all, you should see something like this:

boards

You see all those "boards" listed?  These contain some very vital elements to the game, and you should check them - particularly the "story" and "quests" boards - frequently. Now the story board contains "chapters" of the eventual campaign feature of RoR. Once a month, one Chapter will be added, and you can get 1 more bit through the eventual campaign of the story! Every chapter will ask you to do something, just as the prologue sent you to this thread!

Now, look at the board called "quests." This is where the real magic happens in RoR. Come in here, click just about any thread you want. Each one will involve a character, or "NPC" (non-player character) giving you a mission. If you complete this mission, then you will gain XP tokens. Look up at the top of the page, on the banner...see that little coin icon? That shows how many XP tokens you have. Every time you reach 100 tokens, you level up! XP Tokens are also usable as currency to buy certain things.

Now, quests aren't always all fun and games. Your character could get infected with a disease or poison while on a quest. Possibly, be injured, or even LOSE XP tokens! Not all quests are applicable for your character they may require you to be a certain level, OR a certain class. To find out more about classes. You won't have to worry about classes until you read Chapter 1.

The next board you'll see is the "involvement" board. This is the only place where YOU can post. It is for conversational feature of the game, like trading, brotherhoods, and things like that. Most things in this board are very self-explanitory.

The final board you'll see is "The World of Rokane." Think of this as one big, fat, reference book, with everything you ever need to know about Rokane. If you're looking for some sort of info on Rokane, just head in there, and find the thread for it.

Moving onto the third tab, "Account." This one has got a small drop-down menu. This tab allows you to update your status, add a profile picture, edit info about yourself, and more.

Let's move over to the "rangers" tab. This is where you can look at other people's accounts, add allies (or "friends"), and scroll through profiles.

Next tab. Hmm, that's weird...the "Pigeon Port?" A fairly odd name for a private messaging system. I hope you remember that me and you, we live in a time way before private messaging. In fact, I don't even know the meaning of the word. There are only two ways of communicating here. Talking, or writing notes, to be dilevered by a pigeon. At your pigeon port, all of your friends' pigeons come to give you letters from all over Rokane!

Events is where you can look at upcoming events on the site.

Finnally, we have the last tab: Ithnium Plaza. This is a public chatbox for anyone who's a member.

I hope that I was able to help your amnesia, at least a bit. Now, if you're ready, Bren has agreed to let you live in his home. Good luck, young ranger. And farewell!

HEAD TO YOUR NEW HOME AT BREN'S PLACE

Prologue - An intro and guide for First-Timers

from Oldshy on 11/09/2013 02:52 AM

THE INFIRMORY

Darkness.....

Still asleep, I presume?

Yes. But shhh, please keep your voice down, Gordik. This sleep is needed.

22 hours of it? I hardly think that civil. Wasn't it the moment you greeted the rangers at the gates that our poor fellow collapsed?

Yes. I realised what was happening, and said "Come with me..." and then, bam! A coma.

What do you mean "you realised what was happening?" What was happening, Carry?

Well...I'm not quite sure, but it keeps happening. A person will arrive at the gates, dressed in full ranger gear, then collapse. When they finnally wake, they seem to have amnesia, and remember nothing of their pasts. All they ever seem to remember is one apparently important word: Growthorinix.

Growthorinix?

Yes, that is what it sounds like. And that's not all. They always have a marking on the palm of their left hand. A "Nordirium," the symbol of the Rangers of the North. So, naturally, I have them begin training to be a ranger, in hopes that someday they will be able to recall thier pasts.

This is all so strange, Carry-

Hold on...our friend here is waking up....

Light! A warm bed...two faces look down on you...

Hello! Can you hear me? My name is Carrylum. I am a nurse, and I will be tending to you until you are well. You hear that? You're alright now. You're safe now, nobody can hurt you. This is my friend Gordik...

Hello, there.

He is a pharmacist. He can give you medicine. Do you know where you are? This is Ithnium, capitol city of Rokane. Now, now! Don't try to sit up just yet, you aren't well enough. Listen...do you remember anything?

You remember a word...that one, evil, horrible word...Growthorinix...

Just as I said, Gordik. Growthorinix. It's always Growthorinix...

  You're right.

Do you know what this word means? No? That's okay. Now...do you remember anything - anything at all - about the Rangers of the North? .......hmmm.

 Nothing! Now what?

Well, their condition isn't that bad. They don't need to stay here in this nasty infirmory. But they certainly aren't well enough to stay alone.

Perhaps Bren, the old tailor, would be willing to house somebody?

Perhaps. Gordik, would you be so kind as to seek him out and ask him? I will stay back here and help our friend remember how to along.

Not at all!

Right then, ranger. Can you get up? Easy does it. Come, follow me, and we'll see what we can do about that memory of yours.
